9. a character you feel the need to defend ✦ Draco Lucius Malfoy
I just feel that although he was a horrific bully, he became a Death Eater and he did some terrible things there are very few people who wouldn’t have done the same in his position. He was constantly indoctrinated with the Pureblood, ‘Hail the Dark Lord’ ideology by all the role models in his life. He had Lucius Malfoy as a father, Bellatrix and Rodolphus Lestrange as an aunt and uncle who all had Dark Marks and demanded respect and were wealthy. Plus, he was bullied by his father and would have been desperate to earn his respect, or even a little praise, in any way he could. And even though he took the Dark Mark he never really followed through with any of the things he was instructed to do: kill Dumbledore, he didn’t give up Harry when it really mattered. And I know people could cite Sirius or Andromeda to prove that he doesn’t have any excuses, but I’m not saying he is the perfect character (as none JK’s characters are), he could even be called a coward but I view him as a conflicted, and chiefly scared character whom I feel great sympathy for.
